The turquoise reredos artwork on the east wall of St Paul's, Christ the Saviour of the World, is a bespoke piece of art for St Paul's Harringay, full of beauty and meaning.
It tells the story of our hope as Christians. Produced by the artist Stephen Cox in 1993, the Greek inscription at the top reads “Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews” — the historical charge on which Jesus was put to death (John 19:19). The universe he lovingly watches over is shattered and broken because of sin, and Christ is depicted dying for the sins of the world in the centre. The skulls and bones under his feet are a reminder of how he conquered death and offers us resurrection life. And etched in gold are the travels of St Paul, our namesake, who helped spread this good news around the world.
